The Critical Socialization Period
Puppies have a critical socialization window between 3 and 16 weeks. During this period, their brains are uniquely receptive to new experiences. Positive exposures shape lifelong behavior.
What Your Puppy Needs
- People: children, elderly people, people wearing hats
- Animals: vaccinated dogs, cats, neighborhood animals
- Surfaces: grass, concrete, wood, gravel
- Sounds: traffic, thunderstorms, vacuum cleaners
- Handling: ears, paws, mouth, and tail
Safe Socialization Before Vaccination
Carry your puppy, visit friends homes with vaccinated pets, use puppy socialization classes requiring vaccination proof. Never force interactions — pair new experiences with treats and praise.
