Dog Muscle Fatigue

What is dog muscle fatigue? Dog muscle fatigue is the temporary decline in a muscle's ability to generate force following sustained or intense activity. It occurs when energy stores (glycogen and ATP) become depleted, metabolic byproducts like lactate and inorganic phosphate accumulate, and the nervous system reduces motor-unit recruitment to protect tissue. Most healthy dogs recover from moderate exercise-induced fatigue within 24–48 hours, though recovery time varies by breed, fitness level, and ambient temperature.
